Attend Precinct Caucuses

On Tuesday, February 3, 7 p.m.

If you care about our democracy, then you should care about precinct caucuses.

If you care about DFL candidate quality and platform positions, then you should care about precinct caucuses. Why? Because precinct caucuses are where your opinions about preferred candidates and policy positions are recorded and begin the journey through the DFL’s series of conventions where these things get decided. The DFL works on democratic principles. If we want the party to reflect our values and priorities, it is our obligation to show up.

What are precinct caucuses? Precinct caucuses are the grassroots of our American democracy! They are run by Minnesota’s political parties and are the first in a series of meetings where parties may endorse candidates, select delegates, and set their parties’ platforms. The Minnesota Secretary of State website has an excellent page about precinct caucuses

How do I find the location of my precinct caucus? Put your address into this link and, voilà, it will indicate your caucus location. Sign-in starts at 6:30 p.m. and caucuses start at 7 p.m.

What candidate(s) should I support? Support candidates who you believe share your values and policy priorities. SCVI has endorsed Peggy Flanagan, candidate for U.S. Senate, because she shares SCVI's values. We hope you will support her candidacy at your caucus.

What about shaping the party platform? Resolutions adopted at precinct caucuses are inputs to the DFL platform. Again, it’s a democratic process. Those policy positions with the greatest support become planks in the platform. SCVI teams recommend four resolutions. You are encouraged to submit your own resolutions on issues of importance to you.
