You are welcome! The Climate Justice Team is hosting a book club to discuss the acclaimed book, The Persuaders, by Anand Giridharadas. We will explore how the insights from the book support our work toward a multiracial, multi ethnic democracy here in the St. Croix River Valley.

  • Date and time: Sat, Jan 20, 3:00pm-4:30pm CST

  • Location: Our gathering will be at the home of Martha Winslow in St. Marys Point. RSVP to receive the address.

Books are available from the Stillwater, Bayport, and Woodbury Public Libraries in print or electronic format. Books (paperback for $18) may also be purchased at Valley Bookseller in Stillwater or online through Amazon.

The Persuaders: At the Front Lines of the Fight for Hearts, Minds, and Democracy immerses readers in the world of dedicated activists and organizers spanning the nation, all driven by the common goal of expanding the progressive movement without compromising our principles or drifting toward the center. Anand Giridharadas delves deep into the art of addressing threats and injustices while extending a hand to those who may not yet share our views, but potentially could in the future.

The Powering Progress book club series is being initiated across the country by Invisible National. Their goals in doing this work include promoting an understanding of the value of an active and inclusive government, fighting back against the Right's divide and conquer strategy, and supporting Indivisibles in becoming strong messengers to persuadable audiences.

Ezra Levin, Co-Executive Director of Indivisible, will host a national discussion with Anand Giridharadas on January 25, 2024, 3:00 pm. We encourage all to join that discussion as well. You can register for the January 25 discussion with the author here.

The Persuaders, by Anard Girihardhas, is an inspiring read, and it inspired a wonderful discussion at the St. Croix Valley Indivisible's Book club on January 20th, hosted by Martha Winslow and the St. Croix Valley Climate Justice Team. Carrie Mitchell, was our moderator. Shay DeGolier, Director of Indivisible's Powering Progress project joined us. Just off the plane from Florida, she keep a stiff upper lip and braved a Minnesota January.
