Take action with us now!
Please join us at a rally outside of the WCCO studios in Minneapolis on Thursday, August 14 at 5 p.m. We’ll send the message that we need and expect our news sources to report the news accurately, without bias, and without catering to wanna-be dictators.
Let your voice be heard by sending a postcard or letter to the CEOs of WCCO, CBS, Paramount and Skydance. Find ideas for wording along with specific addresses here.
Our hometown news source, WCCO, recently capitulated to Trump by referring to the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America during a news broadcast! Democracy depends on an unbiased media that doesn’t cave to authoritarian tactics. Obeying in advance is unacceptable!
Here's the context
Paramount is the parent company of CBS. WCCO is a CBS affiliate. Recently, Paramount settled a lawsuit with Trump, not the Trump regime. The settlement was with Trump himself. The settlement calls for a $16 million payment to Trump's presidential library foundation, as well as paying his legal fees. The original suit was over how 60 Minutes edited an interview with then-candidate for President Kamala Harris. Paramount also agreed to release transcripts of future 60 minutes interviews with presidential candidates.
Why did Paramount do this? The answer is found by observing that within days of the settlement the FCC approved the proposed merger of Paramount with Skydance. In addition to the Paramount settlement, Skydance CEO, David Ellison, promised to eliminate all U.S.-based DEI programs at Paramount and to create a new ombudsman to field complaints of ideological bias in news coverage. The network will also run approximately $20 million worth of “public service announcements” that promote Trump’s ideology. We see a pattern of pleasing Trump in exchange for financially advantageous outcomes.
