The purpose of this call to action is to advance consideration of the Minnesota Health Plan. More information and a suggested script.
At least a decade ago, Senator John Marty introduced legislation that would provide comprehensive health care for all Minnesotans. In order to fully explain his plan, he also wrote a book, Healing Health Care: The Case for a Commonsense Universal Health System. He has introduced the bill in the legislature every session since.
The Minnesota Health Plan is a single, statewide health plan that covers all Minnesotans for all their medical needs. It includes comprehensive care, including things like dental, vision, and nursing home care, and mental health counseling and substance abuse treatment. The plan would be financed by a single-payer system, and it would cost LESS than we currently pay for health care.
The Minnesota Health Plan (MHP) would be created by legislation under consideration by the Minnesota Senate and House. A Minnesota Health Plan Caucus has formed. It is a group of over 50 legislators from the Minnesota Senate and House of Representatives, who aim to advance legislation that would reduce costs, expand coverage, and guarantee healthcare for all Minnesotans.
This session, when the DFL controls the House, Senate and the Governor’s office, presents an excellent opportunity to advance the Minnesota Health Plan toward its eventual reality in Minnesota.
