SCVI begins our work in January with an endorsement in Minnesota's U.S. Senate race and training on how to attend a precinct caucus.

U.S. Senate Race

There is a contest for the DFL endorsement for the seat currently held by Senator Tina Smith, who is retiring at the end of her term. Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan announced her candidacy for the seat on February 13, 2025. Representative Angie Craig (CD 2) announced on April 29, 2025. SCVI will evaluate these candidates and, if one of them aligns with our values and priorities, we will make an official endorsement before the end of January.Once we have learned as much as we can about each candidate at this stage of the campaign, we will poll you, our advocates, using a form posted in this newsletter and a poll at the January 21 Monthly Meeting. You will receive more details about this process in a mailing planned for the week of January 5.

SAVE THE DATE: Precinct Caucus Night is Tuesday, February 3

It all starts with precinct caucuses held each February by each party throughout Minnesota. With the emphasis SCVI is placing on saving our democracy, it behooves all of us to get involved in the democratic process. Precinct caucuses are the way voters register their candidate and policy preferences and send them up the chain of the party hierarchy. We all should make this a personal priority. SCVI will provide training and tips through our mailings in January and at the January Monthly Meeting.
