Today, 1100 national Indivisible leaders from all over the country met to discuss Senator Chuck Schumer’s failure of leadership that led to the passing of the Continuing Resolution that contains disastrous poison pills that give Elon Musk and President Donald Trump even more power to destroy our government.

What We Learned

Due to Senator Schumer’s failure to lead in this time of crisis, Indivisible leadership across 1600 chapters has voted to call for him to step down as Senate Minority Leader.

We learned that litigators give no validity to Schumer’s key argument that shutting down the government would hamper the ability of the courts to do the work of reining in the illegal activities that are currently being brought for litigation. In fact, what Senator Schumer did was cede the only leverage that the Dems had to get Republicans to the negotiating table.

What Will SCVI Do?

SCVI agrees with this position. We believe that, in this perilous time, we need strong leadership that will stand up to Musk/Trump’s actions to destroy the things we value like education, clean air, Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, protecting our veterans, etc. We also believe that Indivisibles have power and can send a strong message to our leaders about what we expect of  them.

Therefore, we are asking you to:

  1. Call and thank Senators Tina Smith and Amy Klobuchar for voting No on the filibuster Cloture and the CR.

  2. Ask Tina Smith and Amy Klobuchar to call for Senator Schumer to be replaced with someone who is up to the task of leading in this perilous time (the process requires senators to call for his resignation)
