The Immigrant Rights Working Group of St. Croix Valley Indivisible (SCVI) is organizing an email campaign for all Washington County communities. Our hearts are breaking for what is going on in Minneapolis where ICE and Border Patrol’s unconstitutional use of force has led to two unjustified deaths. We need Washington County to stand up in solidarity with Minneapolis in opposition to these tactics and illegal actions. It is time for a public statement.
The Washington County Commissioners have opposed any ICE detention centers in Washington County. In this, they have taken a strong stand. They’ve given a verbal commitment that the Washington County Sheriff will not work with ICE in enforcement actions. In this, they have taken a strong stand.
It’s time for a public statement that warrantless searches, and detention of American citizens, without the benefit of due process, must stop.
The brutalization of targets and protesters that has led to two unjustified deaths at the hand of untrained ICE agents must stop.
We urge you to send a message to your Commissioner and to Board Chair, Karla Bigham.
You’ll find a District map and contact information here. Select: Your Government Scroll to: County Board of Commissioners (left side) Near the bottom you’ll find a District Map and Commissioner contact information.
Below are key points you might include:
The Board stood strong against an ICE detention center in Woodbury. Thank you.
Washington County must continue to stand strong with Minnesota cities and Minnesotans who are standing up to the illegal overreach by masked Federal agents. The nation and world are watching.
The time is now to state that Washington County welcomes immigrants and will protect the civil rights of all U.S. citizens and all legally documented residents. Furthermore, Washington County is committed to assuring due process for all.
I urge you to devote a Board meeting to a listening session where county residents can express their opinions about the types of actions that Washington County might take to resist the abhorrent actions the federal government is taking in Minnesota and across the country.
I also urge you to hear your constituents out and take their opinions into consideration in your deliberations.
