Stillwater Residents: Contact Your Stillwater City Officials Today!

[Editor's Note: You are also urged to write to your Washington County Board member. These are two separate campaigns with a similar message to different groups of elected officials.]

The Immigrant Rights Working Group of St. Croix Valley Indivisible (SCVI) is appalled, like many Americans and, indeed the world, by warrantless searches and detention of Minnesotans, including legal residents, as well as the brutalization of targets and protesters that has led to two murders at the hands of unrestrained ICE and Border Patrol agents. These actions must stop.

If you support the Immigrant Rights Working Group message and believe that your city can do more to protect our immigrant neighbors, please contact your Council representative and say so.

Below is contact information for Council members and the Mayor, plus a few points for you to consider.

We hope you contact your Council person.

Councilperson _____________:

A few weeks ago, City Council issued a Statement on Public Safety and Federal Immigration Enforcement. This was a step in the right direction since it was intended to reduce fear in our community. However, since that initial statement, ICE and Customs Border Patrol (CBP) agents are working in Stillwater. Masked agents are questioning and detaining residents and visitors. Our immigrant neighbors are fearful and constantly anxious and cannot even risk going to the grocery store.

It’s time for a stronger public statement or Council Resolution that will help our immigrant community feel safer.

I want an opportunity to be heard at a Public Hearing where I can express my opinions about what can and should be done.

For example, wearing masks by law enforcement is illegal in Minnesota. Can Stillwater do anything that makes this difficult for ICE to do?

Racial profiling is illegal in this country. Can Stillwater do anything that makes this type of action more difficult?

Can public education help Stillwater residents be better able to deal with these kind of illegal activities when they occur?
