Endorsements for Minnesota House!

St. Croix Valley Indivisible (SCVI) is excited to announce that we have once again endorsed candidates in Districts 33 and 41. Each of these candidates was also endorsed by the DFL and will run in the general election.

SCVI endorsed Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan in January for U.S. Senate. She has a challenger in the August primary election.

Our endorsement team was comprised of several members from the leadership team along with a number of our active SCVI advocates. We sought to have a variety of perspectives, varying ages as well as a balance of male and female voices. This team interviewed all six candidates (two House and one Senate from each district). 

The criteria for evaluating candidates included alignment with the SCVI policy agenda, a strong campaign that is well organized and able to hit door knocking/fundraising targets, and a candidate who understands the threats to democracy and is willing to fight for us. These evaluation criteria were consistent with those used for our endorsement of Peggy Flanagan. 

Based on those criteria, we are so pleased to announce endorsement of the following  candidates: 

Josiah Hill for House in District 33B

Josiah has a proven track record and a strong campaign. His priorities of quality public schools, access to affordable healthcare, protecting our natural resources, focus on a thriving economy, and supporting women’s rights, align with our SCVI priorities. We are happy to once again endorse him.

Cole Birkeland for House in District 41A

Cole, as an attorney, focuses on protecting the rights of workers. He is committed to protecting civil rights, building an economy that works for all of us, protecting our environment, and ensuring a quality education for all of our children. He has a strong campaign that is on track to make this happen!

Jen Fox for House in District 41B

As a former city council member in Hastings as well as a small business owner and community volunteer, Jen knows the district well and is committed to bringing our voices and priorities to the Capitol. She wants an economy that works for all, good governance, and protecting our water and environment. We want those things too, Jen!

We are mindful of limitations and had to make some tough decisions. We wanted to focus our resources where we believe we can make a difference. While we did not endorse Nat Smith for Senate in District 33, Judy Seeberger for Senate in District 41, and Angela Thompson for House in District 33A, we do still support these candidates and want them to win. We encourage our members to support  them as well.
