St. Croix Valley Indivisible (SCVI) endorsed Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan for U.S. Senator from Minnesota at our January 21 Monthly Meeting. Flanagan is running in a DFL primary for the seat currently held by retiring Senator Tina Smith. Flanagan’s challenger is Congresswoman Angie Craig (CD 2).

SCVI announced our U.S. Senate candidate endorsement process at the end of December. As part of the endorsement process rollout, we stated, “Our initial criteria for endorsement will be whether the candidate aligns with our values.” The process culminated in a preferential poll.

Flanagan was supported by an overwhelming number of those who voted in the poll.  70% of those voting online via links in our newsletter, on our Facebook page, and on our website supported Flanagan. Flanagan received 75% support among those voting at the Monthly Meeting.

Comments made by those voting for Flanagan included, “Peggy reflects my values more and is fresh eyes and heart for Washington” and “Angie Craig's support of ICE makes her a no go for me.” Comments in support of Craig were focused on her perceived electability.
