We’re asking you to send this letter to your legislator.
Here’s why:
Most of us want to have the freedom to choose our own health care. But it’s not freedom if insurance companies decide which doctors we can see, what drugs we can take, or how much care we should get. And if our hospitals and pharmacies are closed or the care and the drugs that we need are way beyond our budget, what choice do we have?
But we do have the freedom to speak up, and speak up we will – for our health and the health of those we love!
Across Minnesota, we have a vision for better health – ultimately, a universal single-payer system – and we can start right now on a pathway to get there.
Our public health services, MinnesotaCare and Medical Assistance, are delivered by HMOs. Research indicates that around 15% of our tax dollars are going to fund their administrative costs. That’s tax dollars that don’t go to care, but rather to improve the bottom line of these private entities.
Please write to your legislator and ask them to look hard at those costs and consider de-privatizing our public health programs. Tell them that health tax dollars should go for care, not profits. Send your letter now, while the issue is being studied!
