Latest Update May 1, 2023: On April 24th, MN House voted on the Jobs Omnibus bill, which included $25 million for the Minnesota Climate Innovation Finance Authority (MNCIFA)! Learn more.

Update 4/30/2023: The House has allocated $20 million in Energy omnibus and $25 in Jobs Workforce omnibus. The Senate allocated $5 in Energy omnibus. We are asking conference committees to fully fund MNCIFA to the $45 million initial request.

The Minnesota Climate Innovation Finance Authority (MNCIFA), currently before the MN House and Senate, needs our support by asking the Legislature and Governor for adequate funds.

The proposed MNCIFA is a publicly accountable financing authority/fund designed to:

  • accelerate adoption of proven clean energy technology and greenhouse gas reduction projects by expanding access to untapped markets and historically underserved communities.

Projects totaling tens of billions of dollars are required to accomplish Minnesota’s Goal of 100% carbon-free electricity by 2040 and accelerate our transition to clean energy. (see MNCIFA details.)

A one-time $45 million MNCIFA appropriation is needed, however, the Energy Omnibus Bill in the MN House includes only $20 million. And just 5 million in the Senate! This state investment, where loaned money is repaid and then used for the next loan cycle, leverages private money and federal dollars.

Write your elected officials. Ask them to support increasing the MNCIFA investment to $45 million.

Minnesota’s $17.5 billion budget surplus is substantial. Our state has many unfunded and urgent needs! We ask Minnesota to prioritize climate-friendly projects and provide adequate funds for MNCIFA, endorsed by SCVI’s Climate Justice Team.
